Nevada DOT: Applying Shotcrete to the Cave Rock Tunnels

As crews begin repaving of both directions of highway through the Cave Rock tunnels and complete roadside drainage and water quality improvements near Glenbrook, drivers are asked to anticipate work zone traffic changes. Beginning the week of Sept. 12 through mid-October, travel lanes may be shifted through the work zone as traffic begins being alternated between the eastbound and westbound tunnels for final paving and lighting work. Oversize and overdimensional semi-trucks are not permitted through the tunnel during construction.

Nevada DOT: Managing Stormwater in the Clear Creek Watershed

The roadway between Carson City and Lake Tahoe was constructed in 1957 in preparation for the 1960 U.S. Olympics in Squaw Valley. Part of the Clear Creek Watershed, erosion has become a serious problem over the years, prompting NDOT to make some significant erosion control and stormwater improvements. James Murphy of NDOT’s Stormwater Management Program explains the benefits of the much needed project.

“I think that transportation infrastructure is an investment in the economy and it grows the economy. It pays back dividends. Not just the jobs that are created during construction, but the jobs that are sustained by businesses that are improved in access by that transportation.”
