Florida’s economy relies heavily on its beaches, the state’s “invisible” coastal infrastructure that protects Florida’s communities. Most of the public view beaches as places where they can participate in outdoor recreational activities. Florida beaches represent its leading tourist destination with about 810 million “day visits” to its beaches annually. This number more than double the number of “day visits” made annually to all U.S. National Parks combined.

Since its opening in May 2014, SunRail has proved a practical alternative to I-4, the region’s main thoroughfare. The initial 31 miles of Phase 1 of the SunRail Commuter Rail System serve passengers at 12 different stations across eight different cities in Central Florida, from DeBary in the north to Sand Lake Road in the south. On average, 3,700 Central Floridians ride the train per day.

Highly trained master riggers moved nine oversized specialty tanks through JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal, home of one of the nation’s highest weight-bearing capacity docks…The new pressurized steel evaporator tanks, which arrived at JAXPORT from Zhangjiagang, China, are 45-feet in length, 20-feet in diameter, and weigh 220,000 pounds each.

Just a few years ago, PortMiami suffered from traffic problems that rivaled downtown Manhattan. More than 16,000 cars and trucks traverse the streets surrounding the port every day, and traffic from cargo trucks makes up more than a quarter of that figure. Prior to the tunnel project, the existing bus and vehicle routes were struggling to support the massive weight of this congestion and inhibiting further growth in the region.

Johan Henriksson was recently appointed Executive Vice President of Skanska Infrastructure Development…In May 2015, Skanska and its LaGuardia Gateway Partners team were selected as the preferred bidder to work with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to redevelop LaGuardia Airport’s Central Terminal Building. The company is also working on the I-4 Ultimate Project in Orlando, which is currently the largest transportation project underway in Florida, and theElizabeth River Tunnels project underneath the Elizabeth River in Virginia.

JAXPORT marked a project milestone today as construction workers placed the first rail lines for the new Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) at Dames Point…JAXPORT’s ICTF, which will be completed later this year, will allow the direct transfer of cargo containers between ships and trains, speeding up the shipment process and reducing the number of trucks on the road.
