2017 ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards

The following projects are among 162 engineering achievements from throughout the nation and the world being recognized by ACEC as the year’s finest examples of engineering excellence. Each will be honored at the upcoming 50th Anniversary, ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Dinner and Gala, a black-tie event on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.

HDR|ICA of Columbia, SC, has earned a National Recognition Award for exemplary engineering achievement in the American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) 50th annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) for Phase 5A of the Bluffton Parkway project in Beaufort County, SC.

The final phase of the Parkway extends the existing road by 3.5 miles to U.S. Route 278, where a complex interchange is carefully integrated within an environmentally sensitive marsh. Impacts to the area were limited through the use of elevated structures and innovative water quality treatment devices during the construction phase.

Along with new highway travel lanes, the project includes a landscaped median and two multi-use pathways. With the Parkway now complete, visitors to Hilton Head’s beaches and other attractions have an attractive alternative to the frequent congestion of Route 278.
