Now that the Trump infrastructure plan has been released, the question is, “Will it hold water?” That’s a question of high interest to people who deal with water issues on a daily basis.  City, county and state officials who need financial assistance for projects related to water resources and water systems had hoped for some sort of timely help from Congress.  It appears, however, that no immediate assistance will be forthcoming. Despite bipartisan support for infrastructure reform, there is no consensus on how to get started.

Our Nation’s infrastructure is in an unacceptable state of disrepair, which damages our country’s competitiveness and our citizens’ quality of life. For too long, lawmakers have invested in infrastructure inefficiently, ignored critical needs, and allowed it to deteriorate. Just a week ago, the president started walking back his often-stated commitment to use $200 billion in federal funding to leverage another $800 billion in private capital and other non-federal funds for an infrastructure plan. Word from the Beltway this week is that a new “outline of principles” for an infrastructure plan will be forthcoming from the Trump administration, possibly in the next week or so.
