Nevada DOT: Breaking Ground on Highway 95, Phase 2B

In January, NDOT broke ground on a $78 million dollar widening and upgrade to a six-mile-long stretch of U.S. Highway 95 between Ann and Kyle Canyon roads in northwest Las Vegas. The project will relieve congestion, improve efficiency and enhance safety, while providing capacity for future growth. Currently, over 52,000 vehicles daily travel through the corridor; however, traffic is expected to more than double over the next two decades.

Nevada DOT: Managing Stormwater in the Clear Creek Watershed

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015

The roadway between Carson City and Lake Tahoe was constructed in 1957 in preparation for the 1960 U.S. Olympics in Squaw Valley. Part of the Clear Creek Watershed, erosion has become a serious problem over the years, prompting NDOT to make some significant erosion control and stormwater improvements. James Murphy of NDOT’s Stormwater Management Program explains the benefits of the much needed project.

Nevada: Flood in the Desert

After flooding near Las Vegas closed Interstate 15, crews were able to re-open the flood-ravaged interstate in just four days. Here’s the story:
On Sept. 8, 2014, remnants of Tropical Storm Norbert dumped nearly six inches of rain in the Moapa/Glendale area north of Las Vegas—more than the area typically receives in an entire year.
