A P3 project near you soon? The chances are good for that to happen in 2024!

Wednesday, September 6th, 2023

by Mary Scott Nabers There’s too much confusion about public private partnership (P3) engagements. That really needs to change. Unless something significant alters public funding for infrastructure projects in the next several years, P3 engagements will likely become one of America’s most common forms of project delivery for government. Every jurisdiction has benefitted significantly over the […]

The Midterm Elections and Implications for Water Infrastructure

Thursday, December 6th, 2018

This year’s midterm elections had the highest turnout in a half century, with 49 percent of the population voting for candidates at the national, state, and local level. In the House of Representatives, control flipped with Democrats poised to pick up nearly 40 seats. Although a few races are still uncalled, it looks like this year could be the third largest gain by any party in 40 years.

New Opportunities for Bipartisanship

The Art of the Possible: Bipartisan Possibilities - U.S. Chamber

The results of last week’s election are in – Americans delivered a split decision on the makeup of the next Congress. In the House, Democrats won control from the Republicans and now hold the majority. In the Senate, Republicans maintained power and even added seats to their majority. This means that we’ll be operating under divided government for the next two years. But it doesn’t mean that nothing will get done.

Something good may be about to happen

Monday, April 23rd, 2018

President Trump has promised to shorten the time it takes for federal agencies to approve environmental reviews and issue permits for large public projects. Many have scoffed at the Administration’s claims.  But maybe – just maybe – change is in the

ACEC’S ENGINEERING INC. — The Legislative Engineer

Thursday, March 22nd, 2018

“I believe we need more engineers in elected office across the board. I talk to a lot of engineering groups and to engineering students, and I always encourage them to get involved in politics, whether they are going to run for office or not. The fact is the laws and rules propagated by those in elected office can have a lot of impact on engineering careers and what happens with the economy. It’s just important that engineers become more involved. I don’t know the exact number of engineers currently in Congress, but I do know there are two engineers who were just elected by special elections—Ron Estes, R-Kansas, and Greg Gianforte, R-Montana.”

Congressional leaders begin to address infrastructure with a plan of their own

Monday, August 14th, 2017

Delays in the rollout of the Trump administration’s much-heralded $1 trillion infrastructure plan are proving costly for deteriorating U.S. roads, bridges, airports and transit systems. And the longer the delay, the more it will cost taxpayers. Tired of delays on a long-awaited new plan, some members of Congress are busy putting together a “Plan B.”

Congressional Roadblock

Friday, June 2nd, 2017

The current infrastructure permitting process is insane – even crazier than you can imagine. And only Congress can fix it. Congress needs to do it’s job and streamline the approval process and get America building. Our nation’s economic competitiveness depends on it.

Guest on The Infra Blog: Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Ranking Member, House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee

Wednesday, July 20th, 2016
Congressman Peter DeFazio

In 2014, DeFazio was elected to the powerful position of Ranking Member on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Coast Guard, highways and transit, water resources, railroads, aviation, and economic development.

“[Citizens] need to speak up, speak out. They need to contact their members of congress, their senators. They need to particularly weigh in in an election year and, go to a debate, or ask them a question as publicly as you can, ‘what are you going to do to fix Americas infrastructure?'”
