The recent opening of the new and iconic east span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was a monumental achievement for Caltrans, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the California Transportation Commission, but let’s not forget those who paved the way for us in the 1930s as they built the original Bay Bridge — an engineering marvel in its own right.
